Legislative Issues

Legislative Issues of Interest to Flathead Wildlife Members:

The Montana Legislature can affect the way we enjoy the outdoors. Flathead Wildlife, Inc. was heavily involved in the 2017, 2019 and 2021 and 2023 Montana Legislatures and we remain in contact with some Flathead Area legislators year round. Successful initiatives included restoring funding to Habitat Montana, more equitable funding for Aquatic Invasive Species, restoring funding to FWP Enforcement and Fisheries Divisions and continuing to protect public access.

Issues of concern during the 2023 Montana Legislature were efforts to privatize wildlife licenses and an unsuccessful effort to allocate marijuana tax revenues towards conservation including a Montana Legacy habitat grant program, improved funding for Habitat Montana and maintenance dollars to county road programs for roads damaged by hunter traffic (vetoed by Governor).

Flathead Wildlife, Inc. has commented on a national basis on greater sage grouse protection, bull trout management and wolf management.
